The most beautiful specimens and pieces of scientific interest are found in museums. On the other hand, a large quantity of pieces or fragments of tusks are also discovered which are of little scientific interest. These are the pieces that we use for our jewelry.
The coloring of ivory results from the absorption of minerals from the soil by the tusk during its long stay underground. The external part of the tusk is sometimes colored (from brown to orange, including green and blue), while the internal part, sheltered from the elements, has retained its creamy white color. This coloring is greatly sought after. Cracks and cracks are also an integral part of this unique material.
Prices are set according to the complexity of the model, the time required to make it, the size and thickness of the piece of ivory, as well as its coloring and texture. Normally, a piece of colored or textured ivory is worth more than a piece without a particular color.
We buy tusk pieces from specialist sellers, mines or construction companies who find them while digging. Our jewelry is made from pieces found in Alaska and Siberia.
Each of our ivory jewelry are unique pieces. They are all handmade and each piece of ivory is different. So, when a piece of jewelry is sold, it is no longer available and is therefore automatically deleted from the online store. On the other hand, if you have identified a model that you like, we will be happy to look in our inventory to see if we do not have a model that could resemble it or if it is possible to make one other similar.
We sometimes make pieces to order, but this depends on our schedule and the nature of the order. Contact us for more information.
The indigenous people of the Far North, Yakuts, Chukchi and Eskimos, have long noticed that those who wear mammoth ivory amulets get sick less and live longer. The defenses remained buried for thousands of years in high latitudes, they were influenced by the strong magnetic fields of this region, which would create a positive field of influence for humans. Unfortunately, we have not been able to verify this belief...
